Sister Carolyn Cannon grew up in West Valley City, Utah. She lived the same house all her life before she was married. Her data was a school teacher with summers off, so they camped a lo every summer and she absolutely loved it. She met her husband Anthony on a blind date set up by his cousin. As a senior in high school, Carolyn worked for his cousin’s family business. Anthony was a returned missionary who was five years older than Carolyn, but he figured if his cousin was going out of her way to set him up on a blind date he should go ahead and accept. It was a perfect match. The couple was engaged after six months and married four months following.
Carolyn and her husband have four daughters. Larissa and her husband, Rusty Cannon, are both Cannons, they are both engineers, and they live in Layton with their five children, all under the age of eight. She has held many callings in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society and has loved them all! She is currently serving as the Relief Society President in the Trailside Ward. The thing she likes most about her current calling is the interactions with the sisters of the ward and learning and growing from their examples. Sister Susan Pehrson lived in Layton, Utah for about 14 years before moving to Englewood, Colorado where she spent her last two years of High School. One fun story from her childhood occurred when she was about five years old. Most mornings she watched a local television show for kids called Hotel Balderdash. One day here mom and her mom’s friend decided to take their kids to the television studio in SLC to be in the live audience which they often showed on camera. Suzie doesn’t remember much about the actual taping, but said she does remember sitting in their kitchen about a week later amazed that sure enough, there she was, she and her brother were actually on TV!
Suzie and her husband Shawn were set up on a blind date by Suzie’s sister and Shawn’s cousin. Suzie was at BYU and Shawn was living in Farmington after he had just gotten off his mission to Sydney Australia. He cheated and saw a picture of Suzie before they met. She had been on a couple of blind dates that weren't so great and was really trying to get out of going. Fortunately, because of some small miracles that occurred, they did end up going on a double date with her sister and Shawn's cousin. The rest is history! Suzie’s sister did end up marrying Shawn's cousin which makes it extra fun for family activities on both sides!
Suzie and Shawn have four children. Their oldest is Daniel, who's married to Ashton. They live in Cottonwood Heights and have one little girl named June. She'll be two in November, and the whole Pehrson family is kind of obsessed with her! Brooke is a teacher and the head volleyball coach at Clearfield High School, and is looking for a tall, righteous, handsome man, so if you know any feel free to contact Suzie! Perri and her husband Cameron have been married for two blissful months, and she also works at Clearfield High School and is an assistant volleyball coach. Spencer, their youngest, is working for Syracuse City's Recreation Department and is still deciding what he wants to be when he grows up.
Suzie works at Sheldon Peck Orthodontics here in Syracuse in the front office and has loved working with amazing patients and their families for the past thirteen years.
Most of the callings Sister Pehrson has served in throughout her life has been with the youth in Young Women's, with a couple of short stints in Relief Society and Primary.
As a member of the Stake Relief Society Presidency now, the thing she enjoys most is being able to meet so many incredible people, especially the sisters throughout our Stake who are wonderful examples of service, kindness, strength in trials, courage to keep trying, faith, and love of the Savior. She says they have truly nourished her testimony and inspired a deeper conversion to the Savior and a love for others!
Sister Shea Hamilton grew up in Kaysville, and graduated from dear old Davis High School. When she was 6 years old, her family lived next to a golf course. One day, she and her friend had a great idea to leave all of the golfer's little presents in the putting cups on the greens. They thought that a little flower in the bottom of the putting cup would make the golfers happy, especially if they were having a bad game. She knew her grandfather would be golfing on this particular day, and wanted to make sure he had a little surprise from his granddaughter. She thought that it would make him so happy to reach down and get the golf ball out of the putting cup, and see a little flower at the bottom. Shea and her friend picked all of the flowers out of her neighbor's yards, without asking, and placed them in the putting cups on the greens. She was so excited to give the golfers a present! Her mom found out that she had not only been on the golf course without permission, but had ruined all of the neighbor's flowers. She got into quite a bit of trouble, and that was the last time she left surprises on the golf course.
Shea turned her papers in to serve a mission, but she met President Hamilton and decided to marry him instead of serving in the field. President and Sister Hamilton met in Provo, while they were going to school. His roommate was a dear friend that she grew up with in Kaysville, and they met through him. They dated for several months and got engaged after only talking about marriage once. He asked her to marry him on Halloween night, in front of all of their family. She was so surprised, she could only respond with, "Um, what?!?"
The Hamilton’s have three children. Cameron, is 22 years old and served in the Stockholm, Sweden mission. He goes to BYU and will graduate in statistical/data analysis. He is very smart, just like his dad. Ella, is 20 years old and is currently serving a mission in the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, South mission. She attended BYU-Idaho before she left, studying physics. She is also smart like her dad. Griffen, is 16 years old, he is a junior at Syracuse High. He loves his dad, tractors, farming, Chick-Fil-A, and his dog Bingley.
Shea teaches English Literature to high schoolers at Solstice RTC. She has been the Young Women’s President, Young Women’s Leader, Primary President, Primary Chorister, Compassionate Service Leader, Relief Society Chorister, Relief Society Board Member, Primary Teacher, and ministering sister.
She is currently called as a nursery leader. She loves working with these beautiful little children who already have testimonies of the gospel. She says they teach her about the light of Christ, and unconditional love, every week.
When asked where he grew up, President Clay Kelley said “not really sure I ever grew up, but until I got married, I lived on a small farm in West Point.” President Kelley hunted and trapped a lot growing up. One time, he and his friends caught a skunk in a foot trap. His friend was told that if you hold a skunk off the ground it won’t spray. NOT true! President Kelley’s friend grabbed the chain of the trap and held it high. That skunk spun round and round like a stink sprinkler and let them all have it!
President Kelley served a mission in the Czech Republic. It was a wonderful experience for him. He loved the people and culture. He met the most kind and beautiful girl his senior year in seminary. He and a friend were some of the first to class on the first day. President Kelley wanted to sit in the back but his friend’s plan was better. They waited for the prettiest girl to come in. President Kelley’s friend sat next to her, and President Kelley sat behind her. President Kelley was fortunate enough to be the one that married her! President Kelley and his wife Noelle have five children: Cache, Koy, Claycie, Keenan, and Quincie. Their children are the joy of their lives.
President Kelley is a plumber currently employed at Robert Speirs Plumbing. He has served many times teaching the youth in Sunday School, as Young Men’s President, a counselor in the Young Men’s Presidency, Scout Master, Ward Mission Leader, Elders Quorum Presidency counselor, High Councilor, and now as second counselor in the Stake Presidency. He said what he loves most about his current calling is meeting all of the wonderful and faithful members of our stake. He said “They are so amazing!”
